Ashley Moody Supports Using Warships to Stem Venezuelan Drug Trade

Ashley Moody, a U.S. senator, is supporting President Donald Trump’s efforts to stop the flow of drugs from Venezuela into the United States.

According to Moody, she supports Trump’s plan to deploy American warships to the waterways surrounding Venezuela in order to prevent the flow of drugs, especially fentanyl, to American shores. The Republican claimed that the rise in opioid overdose deaths in America is already beginning to be reversed by Trump and the enactment of the HALT Fentanyl Act.

President Trump has once again shown audacity this week by putting American warships close to Venezuela to stop the trade of lethal drugs at its source. At a news conference in Miami this week, Moody stated, “At the same time, we are celebrating the passage of the HALT Fentanyl Act, a critical new law I proudly cosponsored.”

When taken as a whole, these acts make it quite evident that America’s time of ignoring drug trafficking is finished. Similar to what we’ve done in Florida, this measure guarantees federal investigators and prosecutors the resources they need to hold these traffickers accountable. Ahead of National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day, we are putting an end to the cartels, saving lives, and enhancing community safety under President Trump’s leadership.

Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz joined Moody at the press conference. She commended Moody for spearheading the fight against drugs.

According to Cordero-Stutz, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office is still totally dedicated to collaborating with our federal and state partners to counteract the terrible effects of fentanyl in our community. The HALT Fentanyl Act’s enactment and Sen. Moody’s leadership have given us another vital weapon to help hold traffickers accountable and save lives.

On Thursday, Moody’s hosted a comparable news event in Tampa. She urged Floridians to be vigilant on this National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day.

One drug can kill you regardless of your age, background, or occupation. Five out of ten fake tablets that have been proven to contain fentanyl have a deadly dosage. Therefore, this is the perfect moment to seek help if you’ve ever considered doing so.

The measure’s acronym, HALT, stands for Halt All Lethal Trafficking. According to the statute, offenses involving more than 100 grams of fentanyl or other Schedule 1 substances carry a mandatory 10-year prison term. Substances classified as schedule 1 have no recognized medicinal use at this time and a high potential for abuse.
