A car struck Michael Brick’s motorcycle near the intersection of U.S. 1 and Whiteview Parkway on Friday night, killing the 35-year-old Palm Coast business owner. This year, he is the fourth biker to lose their life on Flagler County highways.
According to dispatch notes from the Florida Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at 8:22 p.m. when a caller reported that a white Toyota had collided with a motorcycle at Flagler County’s 911 dispatch center. The caller almost immediately reported that the motorcyclist was not breathing.
According to FHP, which did not identify Brick by name, he was traveling north on U.S. 1 and approaching Whiteview Parkway in the inside lane. The driver of the Toyota was a 38-year-old Palm Coast guy, and the passenger was a 73-year-old man. At the crossroads, the man turned left, taking Whiteview. Brick was ejected after colliding with the car’s right side. According to FHP, he had been wearing a helmet.
Brick was declared dead at the site, and Trauma One, UF Health’s emergency helicopter, was briefly placed on standby but ultimately did not fly to the location. The Toyota’s two passengers were only slightly hurt. According to his Facebook site, Brick was the owner and CEO of Clear & Green Outdoor Services, which offered pressure washing and related services.
While FHP investigated, the northbound lanes of U.S. 1 were closed. The Palm Coast Fire Department, Flagler County Fire Rescue, and the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office also responded. The corpse was given to the medical examiner so that an autopsy could be performed.
In June 2022, a 45-year-old woman was killed at the crossroads in a similar collision involving a pick-up truck and an SUV. The lady was going south on U.S. 1 when she turned onto Whiteview, causing an incoming pickup to have the right-of-way.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the collision was the eleventh fatality on Flagler County roads this year, out of about 840 collisions.
