Broward County Circuit Judge Stefanie Moon will appear before the Florida Supreme Court on September 9 for a public censure as part of the penalty, which also includes a 10-day suspension, the court announced Tuesday.
The suspension, censure, and $2,115 punishment were imposed by the justices on July 17 after Moon was charged with improper campaign activities, illegal political contributions, and other offenses.
Moon allegedly broke judicial canons by contributing to political organizations that support former Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, former President Joe Biden, and ActBlue, a Democratic Party fundraising organization, according to the state Judicial Qualifications Commission, which looks into judicial behavior.
Moon was also charged with unlawfully contacting the therapist of a man who was a party in a lawsuit and whose mental health was a concern, as well as reminding a lawyer in court that he had not returned a phone call about her re-election campaign. Judges are subject to final disciplinary action by the Supreme Court.
